The Daffodil Principle – an Inspiration to get things going

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

The Daffodil Principle is an interesting inspirational story by Jaroldeen Asplund Edwards. Received this in my inbox sometime around year 2007. Well we all have a tendency to procrastinate, and at other times some task seem too enormous, too daunting to tackle. But that’s how things get done! Like the tortoise and the hare, it takes persistence and tenacity to get going and get things done. So the wonder of something that took so many years to build is certainly awe inspiring! So here’s the story on The Daffodil Principle. Hopes it brightens you day and motivates you!

The Daffodil Principle Book Cover

Several times my daughter had telephoned to say, “Mother, you must come to see the daffodils before they are over.” I wanted to go, but it was a two-hour drive from Laguna to Lake Arrowhead “I will come next Tuesday”, I promised a little reluctantly on her third call.

Next Tuesday dawned cold and rainy. Still, I had promised, and reluctantly I drove there. When I finally walked into Carolyn’s house I was welcomed by the joyful sounds of happy children. I delightedly hugged and greeted my grandchildren.

“Forget the daffodils, Carolyn! The road is invisible in these clouds and fog, and there is nothing in the world except you and these children that I want to see badly enough to drive another inch!”

My daughter smiled calmly and said, “We drive in this all the time, Mother.”Well, you won’t get me back on the road until it clears, and then I’m heading for home!” I assured her. “But first we’re going to see the daffodils. It’s just a few blocks,” Carolyn said. “I’ll drive. I’m used to this.” (more…)

Oolong Tea Inpiration

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

Have some Oolong Tea inspiration story. Something to think about. I receive this in my inbox way back in 2007. While sorting through my old blog, I decided to port over to my main personal blogs Words of Wisdom and Inspiration Quotes section. The story is interesting and makes us think how we should carry ourselves in the face of adversity. And it was said, what that does not kill you makes you stronger. However that saying didn’t say how we would end up looking at life and other people. And this inspirational story at least explains how we ought to carry ourselves after facing some terrible event in our life. The story is most likely fiction but it is uplifting yes?

The Law of attraction – Why Some People Have All the Luck

Saturday, March 5th, 2011

Intriguing. Received this article from a friend about a study done to find out why some people have all the luck. After reading it, this brings to mind some of books written about the law of attraction, books like “The Secret” have been a block buster sale because it appeals to us about attracting good fortune. The earliest publication for this article that I found was in 22/Dec/2003 ( and since then many other websites and blogs have republished it and commented about it.

Basically, if one is positive in his outlook there tends to be a positive aura about him and somehow like attracts like, and good fortune would soon follow him. Positive is nothing new but it is something to think about and even practice it. Hey no harm following the findings if it brings you more “luck”! Some of my church members don’t like to associate a situation to good luck as that seems to represent some random chance on a roll of dice that gave you luck and would prefer to attribute the good fortune to blessing bestowed upon by God. So they rather call it good blessing than good luck. That’s another way of looking at things that Someone up there favours you and decided to give you a boon! (more…)

A Tale of Two Seas

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011

Received this interesting email about the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee. Don’t know who wrote it since the author didn’t append his/her name. It is a good analogy of the sea in comparison with our life, after all it was said it is blessed to give than to receive!

A Tale of Two Seas

Sitting in the Geography class in school, I remember how fascinated I was when we were being taught all about the Dead Sea. As you probably recall, the Dead Sea is really a Lake, not a sea (and as my Geography teacher pointed out, if you understood that, it would guarantee 4 marks in the term paper!)

Its so high in salt content that the human body can float easily. You can almost lie down and read a book! The salt in the Dead Sea is as high as 35% – almost 10 times the normal ocean water. And all that saltiness has meant that there is no life at all in the Dead Sea. No fish. No vegetation. No sea animals. Nothing lives in the Dead sea.

And hence the name: Dead Sea. (more…)

Words of Inspiration Quotes on Confidence

Thursday, June 24th, 2010

We all need some encouragement now and then. Sometimes these little words of inspiration quotes can actually help you to spur things along. This world is such that the world does not wait for you. The world does not owe you anything. You have to make it work, put in your own effort and create your own opportunity and hang on to your tenacity. You get things done with persistently chipping away at the task at hand until one day you find your masterpiece even if imperfect, is still better than others. Talent can get you along somewhere, but in the end it is not talent that will make you successful, it is because you take action, in some case, massive action, and doing it while others give up. That’s where you succeed while others fail. (more…)

The Old Phone

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

When I was quite young, my father had one of the first telephones in our neighborhood. I remember the polished, old case fastened to the wall. The shiny receiver hung on the side of the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but used to listen with fascination when my mother talked to it.

Then I discovered that somewhere inside the wonderful device lived an amazing person. Her name was “Information Please” and there was nothing she did not know. Information Please could supply anyone’s number and the correct time. (more…)

Making a Difference

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

At a fundraising dinner for a school that serves learning disabled children, the father of one of the students delivered a speech that would never be forgotten by all who attended. After extolling the school and its dedicated staff, he offered a question:

“When not interfered with by outside influences, everything nature does is done with perfection. Yet my son, Shay, cannot learn things as other children do. He cannot understand things as other children do. Where is the natural order of things in my son?”

Hospital Window

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

A great note for all to read it will take just 37 seconds to read this and change your thinking

Two men, both seriously ill, occupied the same hospital room.

One man was allowed to sit up in his bed for an hour each afternoon to help drain the fluid from his lungs.

His bed was next to the room’s only window.

The other man had to spend all his time flat on his back. (more…)
