Now tell me which marketing student haven’t learned about this phrase: “Build a better mouse trap and customers will beat a path to you.”
And you know what? It doesn’t work that way in real life and many marketing people will tell you that. Unfortunately those who didn’t study marketing or blur about the marketing concept will continue to make the same blunder. They made a better product; but no customer beat a path to them unfortunately.
There are four basic fundamental marketing concept:
Production concept
Product concept
Selling concept
Marketing concept (more…)

So Pos Malaysia has revised its postal rates by 100% from 1st July 2010 onwards. They claim their postal usage has been declining and of course they have not revised their rates for the past 18 years. They needed to adjust their rates so that they can revise their pay to the postal workers to match with the civil servants pay and of course to boost the profitability back to previous years. (more…)

I really can’t take this slow motion internet connection. But what other choice do I have? Just checked Malaysia download speed and guess what I dug out? Found out that Malaysia is ranked #104 at 1.94Mb/s for download and ranked #86 at 0.72Mb/s for upload. Sounds nice? Not if you compare with our nearest neighbours and you would see we are hopelessly outclassed. (more…)

I’ve kvetched about EMS Poslaju poor service, and I’m going to kvetch about it again! In fact this time its service is much poorer than my previous bad experience. And if you need to contact them to query about your parcel, you can find the telephone numbers here because the Pos Malaysia website is just feeding you wrong information!
You would have thought that Pos Malaysia Berhad being incorporated would run their EMS Poslaju Malaysia department like a corporate machinery. This just isn’t so; the EMS Poslaju is working worse than a third world country. How so, let’s start with this experience of mine. (more…)

Business information is rather important in any job or transaction. The role of business intelligence is very important not just for survival of business but also for the day to day business negotiation and transaction. And when there is a lack of vital information available, misjudgement can occur and can be very costly to the business.
Sometimes the lack of available information makes it very difficult to make any proper judgement. And if your position of your company is that of trading where the many products sold are based on agency rights, then your business position is precarious indeed. (more…)

Looks like CNY is just around the corner. Almost everybody is winding up their businesses especially factory production. With the looming gloomy economic climate, many factories has taken this opportunity to extend the CNY holiday for a week or more in an effort to reduce production overhead cost. Some has even decided to cut employees salary as a move to reduce expenses. Though family reunion dinner celebration is a must, it looks like a mixture of “glad to be still alive but have to tighten belt” to face an uncertain future.
It is unfortunate the world economy has to centre itself on the biggest consumer market namely the USA. Whenever their economy goes down, so does the whole wide world. The cycle of wax and wane of the world economy has a very predictable pattern which no one seems to bother except the academics. It roughly follows a 10 to 11 years of boom and bust cycle. Some scientist even wonders whether it has something to do with the solar cycle activities which also follows a 10-11 year cycle. Strange coincidence indeed. The world’s economy is like a bubble, it just need a flashpoint to trigger it and the house of cards would just come tumbling down. (more…)

The New Year started with a bang from all those grand fireworks display. Being near to two shopping malls I got to see all the slam bang actions from 1-Utama and Ikano/Curve. That was like 3 weeks ago since my last blog. Well I was kinda busy. During the New Year, I made a trip up to Cameron Highlands with my parents and less than a week later I was off to Bali to attend a cousin’s wedding. Two travel destinations in so short a time sounds good you would think. But there is such a thing as travel fatigue. Too much of a good thing can actually be a tiring affair. (more…)

Apparently there was a damaged to TMnet submarine cable network linking Malaysia and Europe. And service degradation was expected for connection to North America because they will reroute some of the connection. No wonder the internet service was so, so bad, especially those linking to overseas. Since this web site is hosted in the US, it was similarly affected. And it was expected the undersea cable to be fixed and the online services restored by 31/Dec/2008.
Sheesh… Even posting a page takes like forever. A page will load real slowly. Especially if a site using PHP like WordPress, Joomla, phpBB or any other server side enabled web sites. Simpler web sites were still not so bad. If a page was just created using simple HTML/CSS and a bit of SSI/PHP, the page loads quite fast. And not all sites were affected. Some sites and most Google services still run fairly well. (more…)

So Malaysia wants to join the rank of a develop country with everything at the tap of the keyboard and do everything online? Dream on man. With the current slow motion of Streamyx, I shouldn’t even call it broadband; it is more like a dial up pretending to be broadband. I’m sure many of my fellow Malaysian netizens would whole heartedly agree with me. (more…)

TM’s streamyx service is getting bad again these past week. Looks like more kvetching about their lousy broadband service. With WIMAX looming to be launched, I wonder how’s their internet service in comparison with all the pretenders out there vying to get a piece of the internet service provider market. (more…)
