This is fun, BookCrossing. Who would have thought that leaving your books in out in the wild and let somebody else pick it up, read it, and hopefully they would leave a little note behind in your BookCrossing account. It started out way back in 2001 when Ron and his wife Kaori were admiring PhotoTag.org site where disposable cameras were let go in the wild and was tracked based on the serial number. So they came up with the idea of leaving books around either at specific BookCrossing designated areas or random points of place. (more…)

This wasn’t a chance to be missed! USAF F-16 Thunderbirds are coming to Kuala Lumpur for an aerial display, plus of course our very own local Malaysian RMAF Sukhoi jet in the opening act! So it was a must see!
Despite the traffic jam leading to the airbase plus I didn’t know where exactly is the entrance to the Subang airbase did give me some trouble to get there in the morning. Idil said I should go there early in the morning at 6am! Brrr… I still want my sleep! So I took my time getting there and left about 9am in the morning. The air show was slated to start at around 10:30am but the crowd has already gone on ahead early and I was stuck in a crawl with the latecomers. Halfway through, I decided to stop at BHP petrol station for a break. Met guy there who was wondering why there was a massive traffic jam in the early Saturday morning. So I told him about the air show. This was one of tha “Ah…” moment when he realized what caused the bad traffic jam. (more…)

It’s been almost a week of meeting up with family members, relatives and reunion dinner and not to mention the Yee Sang dinner for symbol of hope of prosperity in the coming months ahead. How time flies when you are enjoying yourself and already the week is coming to an end. There’s still one more trip to go, to Raub where my aunty’s sundry shop is located. She’s really cheerful person despite the loss of her loving husband from a motorbike accident some years ago. She still invites us over to have a good makan in her favourite restaurant in Raub. Looks like CNY is just around the corner. Almost everybody is winding up their businesses especially factory production. With the looming gloomy economic climate, many factories has taken this opportunity to extend the CNY holiday for a week or more in an effort to reduce production overhead cost. Some has even decided to cut employees salary as a move to reduce expenses. Though family reunion dinner celebration is a must, it looks like a mixture of “glad to be still alive but have to tighten belt” to face an uncertain future.
It is unfortunate the world economy has to centre itself on the biggest consumer market namely the USA. Whenever their economy goes down, so does the whole wide world. The cycle of wax and wane of the world economy has a very predictable pattern which no one seems to bother except the academics. It roughly follows a 10 to 11 years of boom and bust cycle. Some scientist even wonders whether it has something to do with the solar cycle activities which also follows a 10-11 year cycle. Strange coincidence indeed. The world’s economy is like a bubble, it just need a flashpoint to trigger it and the house of cards would just come tumbling down. (more…)

The New Year started with a bang from all those grand fireworks display. Being near to two shopping malls I got to see all the slam bang actions from 1-Utama and Ikano/Curve. That was like 3 weeks ago since my last blog. Well I was kinda busy. During the New Year, I made a trip up to Cameron Highlands with my parents and less than a week later I was off to Bali to attend a cousin’s wedding. Two travel destinations in so short a time sounds good you would think. But there is such a thing as travel fatigue. Too much of a good thing can actually be a tiring affair. (more…)

Home improvement is getting more tedious. This was supposed to be a simple job. Plaster ceiling to cover the cable that runs from fuse box in the living room go pass my PC room then end up in the kitchen. But lo, no! My wife wants to paint the PC room saying the wall is ugly, I said no, she insisted, and now my PC room is in a big mess too!
PC and computers devices do not run on wireless signals and power. Maybe in the future if the scientist figured out to transmit electricity sufficiently and efficiently via microwave power from source to components and devices without using any wires then perhaps we will have a less crazy complicated network of cables sticking out from behind the computer and peripherals. The giant electric oven which Lena bought has been lying idle for almost a year now. We couldn’t use it to bake anything because the existing wiring could not take on the higher power requirement. The initial testing melted the plug. Besides there is no way the existing wiring could take on the power load as it was strung up in such a way that the refrigerator, the microwave oven, the water boiler, the washing machine, etc all uses the same serial line. Received this in my inbox. Intriguing. Looked like some mathematician has too much time in his hands. Nevertheless, still quite fun. Just grab yourself a calculator and follow the instruction. Have fun! (more…)

I have been thinking about it awhile. With so many disparate SQL database and sub web site scattered around this personal domain of mine, I thought of cleaning it up a bit. After all, most of the incoming web site traffic is to this blog anyway. This might also meant breaking some incoming links. (more…)
