Google Adsense is one of the simplest ways to monetize your web site. Ever since it was introduced by Google, it has benefited both the web site publisher and advertiser. It works by scanning through your content for keywords and phrases and matches it back to the advertiser who wants to advertise their products or services based on the keywords or phrases they specify. So when a visitor visits your web site and reads through your article, it is assumed that they may also be interested with the products or services offered by the advertiser as it matches with the topic which they are reading on your web site.
If you can’t think of any other way to make money online, this may be your best option to monetize your web site. If you start seeing the dollar sign flashing in front of your eyes and decide to jump right in to the Google Adsense sign up page, please take a step back read on first.
Google has lain down some procedure for signing up and using this service, and of course as far as Google goes, they also have unpublished rules and regulation which we can only hint on and based on other people’s experience.
First off, before signing up, you need to make sure your web site is properly done with about 20 or so web pages. Why do you need to do that? This is to reduce the chance of Google declining your application. The process of signing up it seems is still done manually. The person in charge will quickly look through your web site before granting you the Adsense account. The person will only take a few seconds to look through your site since there are thousands and thousands of applicant everyday. If there is something wrong with your web site like links that leads to 404 file not found pages, or pages where you place things like page under construction etc. will not go well with the powers to be.
To re-submit your approval would not get you anywhere because your web URL would be in their black list database. You will now have to build your web site reputation by creating more content and removing any undesirable element. Then re-submit your site for approval while keeping your fingers crossed that they do not reject your application again…
Once your application is approved, you can re-use the same account for any number of web sites that you might own. For example, when I first sign up I did it for my www.cameron-highland-destination.com web site. Later when I set up another web site like this one – www.JanLeow.com, I didn’t need to sign up for another account anymore.
To use Google Adsense you need to know some HTML. So do pick up some basic HTML skills. As long as you want to build a web site, some HTML knowledge would be helpful at creating your web site. Thankfully you don’t have to be an expert at it. Of course the more you know the better you are at controlling how the web site will look. To get Google Adsense to work is just a matter of inserting their code onto your web page. In addition, you also have the choice of display sizes and blending the color scheme of the adblock to fit your web site theme.
They have three ways of monetizing your site – Adsense for content, Adsense for search, and Referrals. However based on my experience, by far the best monetizing policy is still the Adsense for content.
Pay out is simple. As soon as you hit $100 dollars or more, you will be eligible to receive a Google check. Sounds simple, no? Yes, and no. If your web site is struggling to get traffic, it may take a long while before you can even receive your first Google check. And don’t ever try to fool Google by clicking your own ads. They can somehow detect click fraud and have your account frozen.
