Since while I was doing some 3G speed test comparison, I may as well did the LTE / 4G speed test from Maxis. However my Nokia Lumia 925 is a Windows Phone, I decided to share the internet connection to my other devices instead of directly testing it. This may produce higher latency as the data signal need to hop from cell towers to a WiFi Hotspot then to my Acer Iconia and Samsung Note phone. Still it was just a rough estimation for the kind of data speed we should be receiving from the telco operators.

Maxis LTE (4G) Speed Test
Monday, September 15th, 2014Speed Test: Maxis vs Celcom vs DiGi
Friday, September 12th, 2014I decided once and for all to check telco connection using speed test app. This may not be accurate but gives a fair idea between Maxis vs Celcom vs DiGi. To set it up, I downloaded the Android App: Internet Speed Test by V-Speed.eu version 1st August 2014 and installed it in my Acer Iconia A501 tablet and Samsung Note II mobile phone.
The telco SIM card package that I used for this test were the Maxis Surfmore 30 postpaid, Celcom XPAX 24 prepaid and DiGi Best Prepaid plans. Other than the informatio
n that they provided from their websites, there weren’t much info about their max data internet speed and how they cap and throttle your data connection when large amount of internet data was being shuffled about.Samsung Note 3 Endless Reboot Loop
Sunday, July 6th, 2014Sometimes mobile phone updates can be a little risky. Just this morning, I saw the update symbol prompt for the Samsung Note 3. Little did I know, I would end up in an endless reboot loop!
I thought the update would have been automatic, when I pressed the Samsung software update button and left the phone alone and came back to it later thinking the update process would have been done.
My Nokia Lumia 800 Windows Phone
Friday, January 4th, 2013The Nokia Lumia Windows Phone flashy display certainly caught my eye! Eventually with the sales promotion, I decided to give this mobile phone a go! I did had my apprehension initially as I had bad experience with an O2 Microsoft Windows Mobile based smartphone. I suppose with iPhone and Android hammering at the smartphone market, Microsoft had to redesign their mobile O/S platform from the ground up, and they sure did a good job at it this time round.
Nokia was the pioneer for the Windows Phone platform as they were given first mover advantage before Microsoft moved on to HTC and Samsung. Given that Nokia was doing very poorly with their Symbian O/S platform, they needed a more powerful operating system to tackle the smartphone market now dominated with the likes of Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android partnering with Samsung, HTC, Sony, etc. (more…)
Outlook Live Hotmail vs Gmail, which webmail is best?
Thursday, August 16th, 2012With the official launch of Outlook from beta in early August 2012, already more than a million users has signed up for the new Microsoft Outlook webmail. Between the Outlook Live Hotmail vs Gmail, which one do you think is best? Granted Gmail user based has just recently overtook Microsoft webmail, so it was time for Microsoft to get back its webmail market share.
Rooting Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 Mini Pro
Monday, April 2nd, 2012After successfully rooting my HTC, I decided to root my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro. After all, it was great to gain more memory and thus able to install much more Android apps then it would otherwise be able without me having to buy another new higher end Android model just so to have more memory to install apps. I’m planning to save up some money to go for Android tablets instead to replace my netbook stolen by my runaway Indonesian maid.
Having used this Xperia X10 mini pro for almost 2 years now, my main grouse with it is the insufficient working RAM memory of 176MB. With the many application running in the background most of the time I get a balance of about 30MB or RAM memory which really slows down my X10 mini pro. The internal ROM memory was 212MB which was about 50MB more than my HTC Cha Cha still gives the X10 mini pro an edge for App installation especially it has less bloatware in comparison with HTC too helped to save up on the ROM memory usage.
Rooting your HTC Cha Cha to gain more memory
Friday, March 23rd, 2012I have my HTC Cha Cha for more than six months now. Their qwerty keyboard was one of the reason why I chose this model over the full screen display version because of the ease of typing. However HTC Cha Cha is considered a budget end mobile phone and thus the provided internal ROM memory is severely limited at 150MB. I read somewhere the reason for such low memory is because this mobile was just meant for simple users who would just want the phone for simple communication and not install much application. Boy did HTC get it wrong. Before even installing any other apps the build in apps (and other bloatwares) and other system function already took up more than 50% of the 150MB available and the user ended up with about 70MB. And when you completed putting a few essential apps and signing up the various accounts like emails, facebook, twitter, etc and downloading your gmail contacts you would be down to about 20MB. HTC Cha Cha Review
Thursday, October 6th, 2011I have been using HTC Cha Cha for more than a week now, so now have a good feel about this Android mobile phone. Earlier I was musing whether to tango with HTC Cha Cha or HTC Salsa. But in the end I bought this model because I am still very much a keyboard user. Though the PDA sales guy said that I was also rather fast when tapping out on the full screen model. I think a real keyboard provides better touch typing sensitivity than a virtual keyboard.
Micro USB Data Cable
Saturday, December 11th, 2010Micro USB data cable is the current standard data cable for mobile phone connection to the PC. Each new computer device will come out with new kind of USB data connector. And so I have amassed quite a collection of USB data cable starting from the standard USB-A, to USB standard-B, USB mini-B (5-pin) and finally the USB micro-B plug. (more…)
Best Free Android Apps
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010The best free Android apps list, these are what made the Google phone so useful apart from its tight integration with the various social networks. Having used my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 mini pro for some time now, I have narrowed down to several must have Android apps, and some which are nice to have but due to tight memory constraint of my X10, I have to do away with the less used Android application. Oh well, I could always trade up my Android phone, but it is still rather new, and I haven’t found a better replacement for my X10 mini pro with a reasonable budget and physical QWERTY keyboard just yet!
Some Android Apps comes free preloaded with your Android mobile phone, so you are pretty much stuck with it even if you don’t like it at all. For the rest, you could pick and choose to download from the Android market many of which are free. Of course some of the app authors in order to recoup their time and effort do insert some ads just like my blogs and website! Well we gotta eat and free is not a good business model! (more…)
