Basic digital photography technique of holding an SLR camera in order to obtain good clear images, you need to hold the camera as still and steady as possible.
The basic photography holding technique as follows:

- Firmly grasp the camera with your right hand on the right side of the camera body with your index finger ready on the shutter button.
- With your left hand palm facing upward place it at the bottom of the lens. Your thumb and index and possibly including your middle finger will grip the zoom ring of the lens for quick adjustment of the zoom.
- Bring in your elbows close to your body while bringing the camera to your face and look through the viewfinder. Bringing in your elbows to your body would help to steady the camera and reduce camera shake.
- For a stable stance, place one foot in front of the other instead of lining up with both feet.
Digital photography has come a long way in a few years. Thanks for your tips.
Thanks for the picture taking techniques, but do you think DSLR cameras are worth the price? I found this site that gives some info on them. http://www.dslrcamerareviews.com Just trying to decide whether to buy a DSLR or point and shoot. I would be more entry level. Thanks for any advise.
Dear John,
Yes, definitely. DSLR takes much more superior photos. There are 3 level range of DSLR cameras – budget, mid-range, high-end. If you don’t want to spend a fortune on DSLR, go for budget entry level like Canon 450D or Nikon D40x and use the kit lens that came with it. However if you want portability, point and shoot compacts are very convenient but you will sacrifice on the creative aspect of photography and will suffer on lag and poorer indoor photos. You may want to consider something in between like a prosumer camera. But with the prices coming down for the DSLR, my choice would be either compacts or DSLR and not so much in-between for the option of portability convenience or/vs superior photos respectively.
Cheers!
Jan.
Dear John,
To choose either DSLR or compacts camera is always depend on what you which to take. Even the compacts camera also can get a great result. If you wish to take night photo then better use DSLR rather then compact. This is because when you use the built-in flash it will overexposure or you will not the actual color.
