Since my previous project attempting to use aluminum foil to enhance the WiFi signal in my house didn’t bring much fruition, I decided to give this TP-Link TL-ANT2408C antenna to boost my indoor WiFi signal coverage.
Currently I using the AZtech repeater, which does a big help to extend the WiFi range, but it did have its pitfalls. So boosting the home base signal would be much better idea. My house has a very strong concrete brick walls which seemed to block not only my telco signals but also my router WiFi.
I decided to invest in this little antenna in hope of boosting the signal to a certain extend. I bought mine from ALL IT in Digital Mall section 14, PJ. Cost about RM29 so it wasn’t too expensive to try out. Technically I should purchase two as my D-Link router WiFi has dual antenna slot.
One of the salesman said in order to get stable signal I should use two. I have some doubts to its workability, so decided to just try out with one first.
The TL-ANT2408C antenna was twice the length of the standard antenna that came with my D-Link router, plus it has a 130cm extension cable for you to find a suitable spot to place the antenna.
Replacing the standard antenna was a breeze, just a matter of unscrewing it and placing the TP-Link version into it. Yes, even if your router model was not made by TP-Link, as long the connecter is the standard slot, it should work.
So did I get a better signal?
Well, the signal did go up about a notch. Not that much, but a little better. It’s kind of tough to penetrate the hardened house walls. Repositioning the entire router WiFi set also helped with the signal strength.
I didn’t find any instability with just replacing one antenna. So for now, I just try it out with just one antenna before deciding whether to get another set for the second slot or not.
