Important To Back Up My PC

Wednesday, July 7th, 2010

It’s important to back up my PC. To the point of paranoia even. We are working in a knowledge base environment. Without business information we can’t make an informed decision. We need data to make our analysis, without it we may end up with paralysis (of course there is the other extreme ending with analysis paralysis but that’s a different story). It is like the fog of war, without information we do not know which direction to act.

That’s why I back up my PC in as many as 2 copies. I came across a website where a company does data recovery and they have seen so many cases of thrashed PC from their clients that they get sort of paranoid in when they make their own backup data plan. They make as many as 4 backup data stored in separate locations! Actually that is a good idea too and I follow their paranoia in my backup data plan. (more…)

WD Anywhere Backup post review

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

The Memeo Backup WD Anywhere backup that came bundled with WD MyBook was a good set-it-and-forget-it backup software. It came with the WD Anywhere external hard drive that I bought. I have been using for a good pass 18 months and it was almost quite smooth in its back up function. However recently the latest nagging requesting you to update its Memeo WD Anywhere Backup makes it out to be a very irritating nagware. (more…)

Philips GoGear 2GB MP3/WMA Player

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Now this was fast. I submitted my Citibank Rewards for a Philips GoGear 2GB MP3/WMA Player and I received it in just a week even though they mentioned it will take several weeks. I have amassed sufficient Citibank Reward Points and decided to redeem the Philips GoGear MP3/WMA Player. It needs 41,000points and I thought it was quite reasonable. The MP3/WMA Player for a 2GB version was going for about RM160 in the market while the 4GB version was about RM240. (more…)

Archive backup files using compressed zip files

Tuesday, March 24th, 2009

It is very important to keep backup of files that you use regularly whether it is for work or personal files. You never know the files may get corrupted. Files in your PC are easier to backup while those in your web site of course it becomes more complicated. However many people do not seem to know how to use the build in function in Windows to make simple archival backup files. (more…)

Saturday, November 29th, 2008

Windows dynamic disk volume can be useful, but it has its pitfalls too. However I believed the disadvantage far outweigh the advantage, of course it all depends on your needs. However my recent experience with dynamic disk volume has not been good. (more…)

Having switched over to using digital SLR photography, the amount of storage space required for storing and backing up RAW files jumped up tremendously! I had considered various options for data backup, but in the end settled on using the bulkier Western Digital My Book external hard drive instead. (more…)

My current webhosting provider – Bluehost has a feature called webdisk file storage system. With its current feature of unlimited hosting space, it could actually be use as a cheap way of keeping your files online. So not only could you host your website on the hosting company, you could now store or use it as way to backup your files. (more…)

SyncToy free file synchronization by Microsoft

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

SyncToy was just what I needed. Having tested a slew of file synchronization software, most of them trial ware basis meant that after using them for a while, the sync ability was disabled with a prompt requesting you to purchase an upgrade or other limiting factors like syncing one folder only between devices and not able to save the folder path for future syncing. (more…)

File Synchronization

I have been using the Briefcase folder provided by Windows for sometime. It was nothing to shout about as it was simple file synchronization tool which was available even way back when Windows 95 was first introduced. I didn’t really use it seriously till I needed to work on files on my portable USB flash device both at home and in the office. I wanted to have the same set of working files in my home PC, my office PC and my USB flash drive. (more…)
