Ever since Yahoo Pipes service was shut down, I’ve been looking for a good alternative to merge my various RSS feeds. My website is composed of several sections using WordPress, Google Blogger and Tumblr. I have tried some free services out there but they were never as good as Yahoo Pipes. And without a good monetizing idea, those services too, died in the end. Leaving me in the lurch yet once again. Finally I decided to search out some code that would sit in my own web server and never have to worry about such services shutting down.

Friday, August 16th, 2013While browsing around the Google webmaster central, happened to bump into HTML improvement section and saw the replytocom duplicate title tags content warning. I was pretty sure what I wrote would not be duplicate within my website domain or my other sites. After all, Google frowns upon such duplicate content. (more…)span>
Posterous Spaces closes down
Saturday, March 9th, 2013“Another one bites the dust” and so Posterous Space would bid adieu come 30 April 2013. Fortunately for me, I didn’t really use this service in a big way. Thus it was not a big loss for me. The way social services closing down their doors one after another seemed to be the trend recently.
I suppose free is not a good business model. Eventually they have to come up with some kind of monet
izing method in one way or another. Take Linkedin for instance, sure they are very popular among the working professionals trying to link up with other working professionals, eventually they have go for advertising revenue. (more…)Outlook Live Hotmail vs Gmail, which webmail is best?

How to Recover from a Faulty Corrupted WordPress SQL Database caused by Bad Plugins
Monday, July 30th, 2012I guess eventually it would happen, the WordPress SQL database would eventually get corrupted from bad plugins. WordPress plugins are useful, but they also create configuration inserted into the WP_options MySQL table that are difficult to sort out. If the plugins worked well, no need to do anything. But if it misbehaves, just deleting the plugin may not necessary solve your WordPress website issues.
My personal WordPress blog has been around for many years now, and there are hundreds of posts. In between I have tried many plugins to add functionality and more importantly to harden it against would be hackers and make it difficult for comment spammers. The latter two options tend to cause problem for WordPress installation somehow. Most especially the captcha plugins tend to cause my WordPress site to behave weirdly. My recent captcha was causing the entire site to lag and hog CPU resources! (more…)
Fixing the Penalty of Google Panda 2.5.2 update
Wednesday, December 14th, 2011It’s been awhile since my last post. Ever since the penalty imposed by the October 14, 2011 Google Panda 2.5.2 update, my website traffic has gone down, and so did my motivation for running my personal blogs and websites. The hit was rather severe causing both my authoritative guide website traffic to go down by as much 50% to 60% as well as my hobby blog such as this. I do get a kick to see my site having traffic despite not earning much. And this time it is really a kick in my stomach. (more…)
Has Panda update caused your website traffic to reduce?
Thursday, September 8th, 2011When Panda update announcement first came about early this year 2011, it has cause a number of websites traffic to reduce. The update was meant to weed out questionable web sites that are spewing out useless fluff in the internet as well as weed out web spammers.
However the algorithm was not perfect and legitimate authority web site was hit as well. It created a lot of negative publicity about the Panda update and Google tried to defuse it and reverse any harm it has cause to web site owners who made enough complaint about why their web site is nowhere to be found with the relevant keywords.
So as the Panda update is rolled out to the rest of the world (meaning Google searches with TLD ending other than .com, for example over here in Malaysia, google.com.my), I waited and see what will happen to my websites. (more…)
To use or not to use WWW before your domain name
Thursday, August 18th, 2011It seems the www. prefix to your domain name is actually a subdomain. When internet first started, and website were being created, www prefix would refer to a website as being a World Wide Web, probably trying to differentiate from the intranet website I suppose.
However, due to frequent usage, most people would consider affixing a www prefix whenever they type in a domain in the URL address. Hence as webmaster, we still maintained the www prefix to a domain. And yet, using it, it actually means a subdomain, and hence when you make your website, it is referring to the various pages in the subdomain of the www.yourwebsite.com! (more…)
Revamped my Homepage
Monday, April 4th, 2011I decided it was time to change the homepage of my website. It wasn’t very functional with all the various blog post aggregating onto a very long, long snippet of post. Sure, perhaps it is good at catching the long tail keywords but I don’t find in my analytics very good incoming traffic from my frontpage anyway. May as well try to do something different to it. Brute Force Password Cracking
Tuesday, March 29th, 2011Keep your password difficult to crack because brute force password cracking is possible to gain access to any of your secured work space such as your website. I happen to bump into this information some time ago (forgot which website) which gives a rough indication how secure your password is against a would be attacked attempting to use a brute force cracker to break your password and gain unauthorised access to your area of security. Thus it is prudent to create as unique and complicated password as you can to foil any attempts for a hacker to gain access. (more…)
