BMW Mini Countryman driving adventure

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Any roadie trip would always be exciting especially planned with a large group of friends. What’s more, when you could also try out a new car like the BMW Mini Countryman! This was a simple roadie trip from Klang Valley to Penang, Pearl of the Orient. The drive wasn’t so difficult as being on sales I need to drive about just about anywhere. So the journalist here was probably not a season outstation driver.

Nowadays with the superb PLUS highway the drive would be rather straight forward, unlike the days when I started driving from KL to Penang using trunk road and having to overtake lumbering big brother trucks and lorries, and sometimes there could be a stretch of them in a row making overtaking extremely difficult and dangerous!

Now with the highway, you only need to worry about feeling drowsy and falling asleep at your wheel. The long easy drive really dull your senses, so take breaks often to clear your head and freshen up as much as possible before continuing with your journey.

Big Mini adventure

Stylish hotel, check. Fantastic shopping, check. Cool ride, check. The perfect getaway is closer than you think.

“How many adults can you fit in a Mini?” I was kicking back with a glass of Chardonnay when a portly holidaymaker leaned in to ask me this. [editor: answer at end of article if you can’t wait to know! Cheers!]

It was a sweltering evening, and the models had just concluded their parade across the ultra-hip lobby of the Hard Rock Hotel. All eyes followed as they disappeared behind a wall decorated with candy-coloured Coach bags from the Summer 2011 collection.

On the move: The writers drove in six Minis, for 547km, from Kuala Lumpur to Penang.

MATTA Fair 2010

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

There will be a MATTA travel fair from 12th-14th March 2010 at the PWTC Kuala Lumpur. Perhaps for those who are looking for some special cuti-cuti Malaysia travel holiday packages, you might want to check it out and look-look see-see.

——-

Anyway, MATTA Fair is a yearly affair sometimes as many 2 to 3 times year. Travellers looking for a good deal for vacation would jump at the opportunity to look for discounted fare or travel packages.

It was so popular that now we have them in major cities around Malaysia. Not just in Kuala Lumpur but also in Ipoh, Penang, Johor Baru and Kuantan too!

Ouch, stumbled upon this old post imported from the now defunct Vox blogging site. I still got lots of this short blurbs scattered around my personal blog. It isn’t easy to find them and delete them. Sometimes deleting them causes 404 file error and I get warnings from Google Webmaster.

Scratching my head, to delete or not to delete? Having 404 file error is bad SEO. On the other hand short posts like this also pulls down the overall website ranking. Anyway,

I’m a bit tired about chasing all this ranking thing and just post as I pleased. If the post gets found or not get found so be it!

Chinese New Year travel destination trip to Kuantan, Pahang

Tuesday, January 27th, 2009

“Chinese New Year doesn’t feel like one if we didn’t make an outstation trip.” Lena said. So off we went for a travel destination trip to Kuantan, Pahang on the first day of Chinese New Year with Lindy and my parent-in-laws in tow driving in our Toyota Wish which would provide a comfortable trip. Our Uncle Tee has invited us to stay over because they have won a new LCD TV / Theatre home system set plus a new sofa settee from some lucky draw. Well it was a good excuse to ask us over, and a good excuse to make a trip to Kuantan. With the sun shining bright and hot in the morning, Lena and I also took opportunity to do some laundry and housekeeping. Before we made our trip, we had to drop by Uncle Michael house for a CNY lunch. They had organized a Lion Dance as a symbol to usher in prosperity for their business. So the balance journey time to Kuantan was rather tight. By the time we were ready to make our departure it was already four o’clock. (more…)

Work life balance good and bad

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

The New Year started with a bang from all those grand fireworks display. Being near to two shopping malls I got to see all the slam bang actions from 1-Utama and Ikano/Curve. That was like 3 weeks ago since my last blog. Well I was kinda busy. During the New Year, I made a trip up to Cameron Highlands with my parents and less than a week later I was off to Bali to attend a cousin’s wedding. Two travel destinations in so short a time sounds good you would think. But there is such a thing as travel fatigue. Too much of a good thing can actually be a tiring affair. (more…)

Caversham Wildlife Park

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

What’s a visit to Australia without at least visiting one of the animal parks? So we made a detour along the way of our Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail and headed to Caversham Wildlfe Park. The road was off the main route and it was rather quiet. It was too difficult to find as the map provided by the car rental was really detailed. A signboard along the way pointed us to the right direction. (more…)

Black Swan Winery and Cafe

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

The Black Swan Winery and Cafe was the next stop on our Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail list.Arriving at Black Swan, we were still quite early. Just a little before noon time. Feeling not that hungry, but we were still planning to have our lunch meal here as the next stop would be the Caversham Wildlife Park. We decided we would order less. The Black Swan was a nice looking cafe. It was also a winery too as we could see the vineyard on its backyard. Rows and rows of new vines were planted on its ground. (more…)

Oggies Ice Cream

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

“You must joking?!” That’s what my in-laws said. The weather was cold and we were going to eat Oggies Ice Cream? Well, that was one of the interesting stops along the Swan Valley Food and Wine Trail. Catherine said we must try their ice-cream, it was different. So we got off on our first stop to savour some cold ice-cream on a cold windy day. Despite the bright sun on a clear blue skies, the temperature was cool with a slight breeze. (more…)

Swan Valley Food and Wine trail

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Swan Valley is located to the north-east of Perth, Australia and takes an approximate 30 minutes drive from Perth according to the guidebook. However we were already smack right in the middle of Swan Valley with our accommodation in the Vines Apartment so no need to worry about the distance. On the other hand, there are over forty wineries, restaurants, cafes, farms etc. from small family-run ones to large scale international export class vineyards and factory. So how do we know which ones to drop by? (more…)

The Vines Apartment, Swan Valley, Perth.

Friday, September 5th, 2008

The Vines Apartment in Swan Valley was truly a great accommodation. Only problem was that it was located quite far away from Perth city, Australia. It takes about 50 minutes of driving from Perth. You may wonder why we ended in such an isolated accommodation. Well, sometime ago we joined Sara Worldwide Vacation Club which was affiliated with Interval International and decided to use up the points or it will go to waste. It seemed like a good idea at that time to join up, but like most timeshares, there were many restrictions and limitations. Though the apartment accommodation provide was superb, and the number of affiliated hotels, resorts and accommodation worldwide listed looked a lot but the actual number of available hotels and resorts for each specific region and timing were actually rather limited.
